How To Make A Barrel Of Candy Cake

How To Make A Barrel Of Candy Cake

I just love a fancy-looking cake! There's nothing better than bringing a show-stopping dessert to the table.  Today I'm going to show you how to make a Barrel of Candy Cake.  It looks super hard, but it is really very simple.  There are so many options when making this type of cake.  You can tweak the colors to match any holiday or theme.  I had so much fun picking out ribbon and red, white and blue candies to match for the 4th of July.  Of course Hello Kitty had to join in on the fun too.

Lemon-Blueberry Bundt Cake

Lemon-Blueberry Bundt Cake

So I've made this Lemon-Blueberry Bundt Cake three times already since the issue of Woman's Day came in April.  It is SO delicious!  I love the way the tastes of lemon and blueberries meld together.  Don't you?  Originally this recipe was made with mini bundt pans.  I decided to throw it in my large bundt pan and it came out perfectly!  I made some fresh whipped cream to go on the side because you always need whipped cream.  Is that a true fact?  Yup.

Key Lime Pie Bars

Key Lime Pie Bars

So yesterday was my daughter's 22nd birthday.  Man do I feel old!  She asked me to make her a key lime pie for her cake.  I wanted to make something a little bigger than a pie so I made her pie into Key Lime Bars!  I kind of used a combo of two recipes.  The key lime pie recipe is adapted from Ree, The Pioneer Woman's recipe.  Can't go wrong there.  Trust me!

Cute Teeth Decorated Sugar Cookies

Cute Teeth Decorated Sugar Cookies

Do you think teeth with cute little faces are the cutest?  Well I do!  That's why I knew I had to make these cute teeth decorated sugar cookies for my boss, who is an oral surgeon.  You see, a couple of weeks ago he extracted ALL of my brother's teeth.  That's a traumatic thing for a person. My doctor was so nice and caring towards my brother and made the process so much easier for him.  I really wanted to give him something to show my appreciation.

Decorated Frog and Lillypad Sugar Cookies

Frog and Lilypad Decorated Sugar Cookies

Ribbit!  Thou shalt not giggle at my attempt at decorating sugar cookies.  Thus it has been a while since I picked up a pastry bag.  I was getting the decorating itch, itch, itch.  I don't want to get back into elaborate cakes so I thought cookies would be fun. You see, I used to have a home-based cake business that I did all by myself.  I kinda got burnt out from it so I decided to go back to making it my hobby instead.  I had to go out and buy piping bags, tips, gel colors.....I don't even have any regular round cutters.  I just knew I was NEVER decorating again.  Yeah, about that.....

Elmo Fondant Cupcake Toppers

Oh how I miss the days when Elmo played over and over again on my DVD player.  He was my son's favorite Seseme Street character.  And mine!  These toppers were actually made for a little girl's birthday party.  I used fondant and a round, scalloped cutter.  I let them dry for a day or two so they weren't flimsy when I placed them on the cupcakes.

Decorated Onesie Bumble Bee Cookies

Hello.  And welcome to Alwayz Bakin'.  So happy to share my favorite recipes and techniques here with you.  I adore these cookies.  ...sigh...  Aren't they so sweet?  I made these for a friend's baby shower and I  wanted to share them with all of you!  I iced them with white royal icing and then I made the bee design with yellow and black royal icing.  I'm in love with the little bees.  I'm starting to get that itch to decorate again, but I don't think I will go back to elaborate cakes.  Cookies and cupcakes perhaps.  Hmmmm....maybe.

In other news, we have a new addition to our family, much to my husband's horror.  Her name is Suki.
